DENVER—A Denver police fatally shot a dog that was believed to have attacked a woman and was threatening nearby children.

Police spokesman Sonny Jackson said police were called to the north Denver scene yesterday when a woman reported a dog had bitten them.

KMGH reported officers found two large dogs running lose. When they appeared to be preparing to attack nearby children and one of the officers, one of the animals was shot.

Animal control took the second dog into custody.

There was no immediate word on whether charges would be filed against the owners or owner of the dogs.
