The Colorado Sports Hall of Fame selection committee Tuesday announced its honors for the April 8 ceremony, and it will be a distinctly Rockies evening. The Rockies will celebrate in absentia, because they will be playing at Coors Field against Atlanta.
Besides the team gaining the overall special recognition for its National League championship and World Series appearance, manager Clint Hurdle was designated King of the Hill, left fielder Matt Holliday was the state’s pro athlete of the year and first baseman Todd Helton and shortstop Troy Tulowitzki received special citations.
Tulowitzki was cited for his near-successful run for rookie of the year honors in the National League. Helton’s citation pointed to his longevity as the Rockies’ leader, as well as his defensive play and becoming the first player in major-league history to have at least 35 doubles in 10 consecutive seasons. Helton hit 42 doubles in 2007.

Crush adds four.
The Colorado Crush still has its annual open tryout scheduled for Jan. 20, but roster spots are disappearing after the signing of four players, with training camp set to start Feb. 4. The Crush opens its Arena Football League season March 3 vs. Columbus at the Pepsi Center.
The Crush has re-signed Robert Thomas, a 6-foot-1, 252-pound fullback/linebacker who made the AFL’s all-Ironman team last season. New to the team are wide receiver Greg Lee (6-1, 202, University of Pittsburgh), FB/LB Michael Berg (6-2, 260, Harvard) and defensive lineman Michael Heard (6-2, 268, Mississippi State).
Wyoming center done for season.
University of Wyoming center Adam Waddell’s left foot is not healing, and the school will ask the NCAA for a medical hardship waiver now that the decision has been made to sit him the rest of the season. Waddell will have a season of eligibility restored if the waiver is granted.
Waddell, a 6-9 freshman from Cody, Wyo., played in six games this season, averaging 11.7 minutes and 4.0 points.
Rapids keeper to get some work.
The Senegal national team has added Rapids goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul, who finished third in Major League Soccer in goals-against average, to its roster for the African Cup of Nations tournament, which starts Jan. 20.
