WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee sparred on national television Sunday over jobs and taxes as Republican candidates made their final push to win Michigan’s Tuesday presidential primary.

Appearing on “Face the Nation” on CBS, Romney criticized Huckabee as a liberal on taxes, spending and crime during his tenure as Arkansas governor from 1996 to 2007. And Huckabee hit Romney over the wealthy venture capitalist’s management of the troubled companies his firm bought and restructured.

The back-and-forth came as Romney and Sen. John McCain continued to campaign in Michigan, where polls show a tight race. A Detroit News/ WXYZ Action News poll showed McCain holding a 1-point lead over Romney, with Huckabee trailing but within sight of the leaders. Polls from the Detroit Free Press and McClatchy Newspapers-MSNBC showed Romney with a small but significant lead, while surveys from Mitchell Interactive and Rasmussen Reports also showed a 1-point race.
