A 4-year-old girl hospitalized in Colorado Springs two days ago with bruises across her body has died, officials say.
Madyson Bogard was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. last night, according to Sgt. Mark Stevens of the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Bogard was found not breathing 2 a.m. Tuesday in an apartment on the 3700 block of Rebecca Lane and was taken to Memorial Hospital, Stevens said.
The girl’s mother, Chrystie Marie Hardy, 23, and her boyfriend, Mark Alton Friend, 25, remain in jail for investigation of attempted murder and could now face additional charges, he said.
Police were originally told that the girl injured herself on Monday after falling on ice.
Doctors discovered the child had many bruises on her body and had a serious head injury.
Police say witnesses told them that from October on, the girl’s mother and boyfriend have repeatedly struck the child.
