Qwest today notified 200 directory assistance workers, including 36 in Colorado Springs, that their jobs will be moved to different locations.

The workers can accept the transfer, apply for a new position or receive a compensation package based on terms of their employment, said spokeswoman Jennifer Barton.

The three dozen Colorado Springs 411 jobs will be moved to Pueblo.

The Denver-based company is moving 164 operator jobs from New Mexico, South Dakota and North Dakota to Minnesota, Utah and Iowa.

The transfers will be effective March 28.

Barton said the shift is part of the company’s efforts to move to a “model that includes fewer larger groups versus multiple smaller groups.”

Barton said Qwest plans to add 6 directory assistance jobs in Pueblo on top of the 36 positions that are moving to the city.

Qwest provides provides residential phone and Internet services in 14 states.
