DENVER—Denver school officials have decided classes will be in session at the same time as the Democratic Party is holding its presidential nominating convention at the Pepsi Center downtown.
School security officials and the city had asked the school board to wait till after the convention to avoid possible conflicts.
But school board members decided against that on Thursday.
Board member Arturo Jimenez says students will be safer in schools than on the streets. Officials say a majority of people who responded to an online survey also didn’t want to wait.
Classes will start on August 18th. The convention starts August 25th and ends August 29th.
