BOULDER — Boulder police appealed for help finding suspects in the 5-month-old suspicious death of a 53-year-old drifter that was declared a homicide Friday.

The case becomes Boulder’s second homicide of 2007 after three years with no homicide cases in the city.

Head injuries caused the death of Paul Joseph Moilanen, believed to be a transient, whom police found dead Aug. 13 at a makeshift camp behind a U.S. Army Reserve Center, police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said.

Boulder County coroner Thomas Faure had been consulting with pathologists and waiting for toxicology test results until Friday, when he announced his investigation was complete — and ruled it a homicide.
