MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It wasn’t completely starless, but this NBA night in Memphis had a little less gleam without Denver’s Carmelo Anthony and Memphis’ Pau Gasol, both out because of injuries.
But there’s always Allen Iverson.
And when he’s going the way he was in the Nuggets’ 106-102 win over Memphis at the FedExForum on Wednesday, not only does he shine brightly, but the Nuggets are hard to beat.
Hard turned to impossible for the Grizzlies in the second half. Iverson did a little bit of everything as the Nuggets rallied late to win for the first time in their past seven road games.
Down 97-90 with 3:12 to play, the Nuggets closed the game with a 16-5 run to win it. Anthony Carter and Linas Kleiza both hit big 3-pointers during the run and Iverson sealed the game with six straight free throws for the Nuggets, who played their fifth straight game without forward Anthony, who is nursing a sprained ankle.
Iverson led all scorers with 32 points and 12 assists. Carter chipped in 18. Rudy Gay led Memphis with 30 points and 10 rebounds.
The Nuggets ended their road trip 1-2 and now get some rest before facing Charlotte on Saturday at the Pepsi Center.
