GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A 16-year-old Whitewater boy accused of claiming to have a bomb on a school bus will face adult charges.
Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger on Monday charged Brett Burke with seven counts, including false reporting of explosives and possession of an explosive or incendiary device.
Hautzinger says he based his decision on the seriousness of the allegations and Burke’s extensive criminal history.
Hautzinger says Burke has a criminal record that includes weapons charges.
Grand Junction police arrested Burke at his home January 29th. Authorities said officers found a detonating cord, as well as components that could be used to make a bomb.
Burke is in the custody of Grand Mesa Youth Services Center.
He’s due in court February 19th.
