The Larimer County commissioners on Monday night voted 2-1 against the proposed expansion of the Wolves Offered Life and Friendship (WOLF) sanctuary in Rist Canyon.
The commissioners agreed with an earlier recommendation from the Larimer County Planning Commission, which said any expansion of the WOLF site would cause problems in the rural area.
WOLF wanted to expand its 5 acres to 30 acres and increase the number of wolves it cares for from 30 to 60.
Commissioners worried that one single narrow road to the facility could not handle the traffic generated by an expansion. Some neighbors also complained of the noise caused by the wolves.
Sanctuary co-founder Frank Wendland said today that he was considering several options for the facility in light of Monday’s vote.
