NEW YORK — After being showered with tons of confetti as they paraded down the “Canyon of Heroes” before hundreds of thousands of fans in lower Manhattan and receiving keys to the city from Mayor Michael Bloomberg at City Hall, the New York Giants weren’t done reveling just yet.

The team returned to Giants Stadium on Tuesday for a late-afternoon rally, where an estimated 20,000 fans took the opportunity to celebrate with the Super Bowl XLII champions.

“We would like to extend this to every other team in the NFL and particularly for the last team we defeated, the New England Patriots,” defensive end Michael Strahan said. “Because you know what we did to you? We stomped you out!”

McCarthy receives extension. The Green Bay Packers signed coach Mike McCarthy to a five-year contract that runs through the 2012 season. The deal is worth about $4 million per season.

Patriots defensive back arrested. New England Patriots defensive back Willie Andrews pleaded not guilty to drug possession hours after authorities in Lowell, Mass., said they found him with a half-pound of marijuana. He was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

Ferguson facing cancer. Former Buffalo Bills quarterback Joe Ferguson is battling cancer two years after being treated for Burkitt’s lymphoma. Ferguson, 57, was in the intensive care unit at M.D. Anderson cancer treatment center in Houston, where he was being treated for acute myelogenous leukemia.

Browns safety in 1950s dies. Ken Konz, a safety with the Cleveland Browns in the 1950s, died in Alliance, Ohio, of complications from pneumonia. He was 79.

Konz, who played seven seasons with Cleveland, is fourth on the Browns career interceptions list with 30.
