GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Glenwood Springs police say a man stole a Jeep from a mechanic who tried to help find and fix his broken-down car.

The Jeep ended up in a wreck and a suspect is in jail.

Police say a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl claimed their car broke down Glenwood Canyon.

The mechanic took them in the Jeep to look for the car on Saturday, but they couldn’t find it. Police say when they stopped at a gas station, the teens took off with the Jeep.

Investigators say they found the pair and the wrecked Jeep after the girl called a relative.

Officers arrested Justin Jerald Solaas on suspicion of auto theft, theft, eluding and reckless driving. They haven’t ruled out arresting the girl.
