Reliever Victor Zambrano leads the list of non-roster players who’ll be invited to Rockies spring training.
Zambrano, 32, notched a career-high 12 victories with Tampa Bay in 2003. He’ll compete for a job in the Rockies’ bullpen this spring.
The complete list of non-roster players, announced by the club today, includes 11 pitchers, four infielders, four outfielders and three catchers.
Among the 22 non-roster invitees is outfielder Scott Podsednik, who finalized a minor-league contract with the Rockies today. A key player on the Chicago White Sox 2005 World Series championship team, Podsednik, 31, hit just .243 with two homer, 11 RBIs and 12 stolen bases with Chicago in 2007 season. Injuries derailed much of his season.
Among the pitchers invited to camp are Greg Reynolds, the club’s top draft pick in 2006, and Casey Weathers, the team’s top pick in 2007. Also invited is lefty Sean Thompson, a native of La Junta.
Here is the complete list of non-roster players for spring training, which opens Feb. 15 when pitchers and catchers report to Tucson:
Pitchers (11): Alberto Arias, Micah Bowie, Darren Clarke, Chris George, Brandon Hynick, John Koronka, Zach McClellan, Reynolds, Weathers, Thompson and Zambrano.
Infielders (4): Marcus Giles, Christian Colonel, Chris Nelson and Matt Kata.
