FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — Army Secretary Pete Geren on Wednesday announced a program at Fort Leavenworth that could significantly change the career paths of wounded soldiers.
In the pilot project, the Army would pay for wounded soldiers to attend graduate school at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. In return, the soldiers would return to the Army through active or civilian duty.
Now, many wounded soldiers take a medical retirement from the military.
