A house fire jumped from one home to another this morning in Boulder, where firefighters doused both blazes.
An alert passer-by called 911 at 4:50 a.m. to report heavy smoke in a Boulder neighborhood, and firefighters were able to quickly find the blazes based on the call, said Sarah Huntley, a Boulder police spokeswoman.
The initial fire at a home in the 200 block of Seminole Drive had spread to a another house just north of it, Huntley said.
Five adults, including two University of Colorado students, were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm at the first house and escaped without injury.
The second home was vacant, Huntley said.
The Red Cross responded and provided comfort kits, food, clothing and linens to the displaced residents.
Ice formed by water used to fight the fire caused worrisome slick spots around the homes, but no one was injured.
“We have pretty slick firefighting conditions out here,” Huntley said. “We have a lot of ice; people are slipping and sliding.”
Firefighters also saved a dog and cat from the fire.
Both homes were heavily damaged, Huntley said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A dollar amount for the damage was not disclosed.
