EAGLE COUNTY — A snowmobiler lost in a blizzard in the Colorado mountains died of natural causes, the Eagle County coroner said Wednesday.

John McKibben Jr., 50, of Kremm ling, died as a result of hypothermia Jan. 28, coroner Kara Bettis said.

McKibben’s body was recovered from a rugged, snowpacked area of Eagle County on Jan. 31 by a four- member crew in a Black Hawk helicopter.

He died after getting lost and stuck with two friends during what was supposed to be a snowmobiling day-trip Jan. 27. Blizzard conditions disoriented the party, and they took shelter under a tree.

Murry Melloni of Littleton and Craig Morris of Florida were rescued the day after McKibben died.
