A snowmobiler lost in a blizzard in the Colorado mountains died of “natural causes,” the Eagle County coroner said.
John McKibben Jr., 50, of Kremmling died as a result of hypothermia on Jan. 28, said coroner Kara Bettis.
McKibben’s body was recovered from a rugged, snow-packed area of Eagle County on Jan. 31 by a four-member crew in a Black Hawk helicopter.
He died after getting lost and stuck with two friends during what was supposed to be a snowmobiling day trip on Jan. 27. Blizzard conditions disoriented the party, who took shelter under a tree from heavy snow and winds.
Murry Melloni of Littleton and Craig Morris of Florida were rescued the day after McKibben died.
