Prosecutors in Denver have filed formal charges against a local man in a 2005 rape based on DNA evidence connecting him to the assault, the district attorney’s office said.
Michael Lollis, 43, has been charged with three counts of sexual assault, kidnapping and car theft, said Lynn Kimbrough of the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities announced Friday that Lollis is suspected of forcing his way into a woman’s car as she was parking on July 8, 2005 and forcing her to drive to an alley where she was assaulted.
The victim contacted two Denver police officers after the attack but the assailant was not captured at the time.
On January 31 the Denver Police Department was notified that a DNA profile from this case matched a profile in a national crime database.
Michael Lollis was identified as the suspect based on the DNA hit and was arrested Thursday.
He was already charged with two other similar attacks in Denver and is suspected in numerous other attacks in Aurora, Kimbrough said.
Lollis is being held at the Denver County Jail and his bond has been set at $350,000.
He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court tomorrow morning to be advised of the charges.
