R.E.M. will return to Red Rocks Amphitheatre this summer, and the legendary rock band is bringing along some very special guests, according to the band’s website.

R.E.M. will play Morrison’s famed outdoor amphitheater on June 3 with a little help from indie rock heroes Modest Mouse and 2007 buzzband the National.

Last time R.E.M. played Red Rocks, they played multiple dates — and they’ll have room to schedule more this summer as this initial show sells out. Their next scheduled show after June 3 in Colorado is June 6 at Chicago’s United Center, allowing for one or two more Red Rocks shows, should the band and promoter choose to book them.

R.E.M. will be touring in support of its 14th studio album, “Accelerate,” which is scheduled to hit stores on April 1. At this point, The Post has no information regarding ticket information. But keep your eyes on these pages for all that and more.

Other bands playing Red Rocks this summer include new wavers the Cure (May 21), prog-rockers Rush (June 5), country legends Emmylou Harris and John Prine (June 6), local favorites Big Head Todd & the Monsters (June 7), the eclectic “True Colors Tour” (July 5), rockers Jethro Tull (Aug. 12) and emerging country star Dierks Bentley (Aug. 29).

Local gypsy-meets-mariachi act DeVotchKa will also headline a date at Red Rocks sometime in August — a few months after their Coachella debut.
