DENVER—Sunflower Market Inc. has agreed to pay $125,310 in back wages to workers in four states who were improperly denied overtime pay, the U.S. Department of Labor said Wednesday.
The department said $10,670 in fines also was issued for violations of child labor regulations.
A company representative said she did not have an immediate comment.
The Labor Department said the Colorado-based chain had misapplied executive and administrative exemptions for overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act. The back wages will be paid to 78 workers in Boulder, Colo.; Las Vegas; Albuquerque, N.M.; and Phoenix and Tempe, Ariz.
The department said six minors were found to have worked past 9 p.m. during the summer and one minor was using a box bailer in violation of rules barring minors from duties deemed hazardous.
