GREELEY, Colo.—The Bears on University of Northern Colorado license plates could be forced into permanent hibernation if more of the animals don’t start showing up around the state.
The UNC Alumni Association and Foundation says the school’s plate may be eliminated if there aren’t at least 3,000 of them on vehicles by March 1st.
The group’s administrative assistant, Marjorie Meyer, says the public relations exposure the school gets from the plate is important.
Two state lawmakers are co-sponsoring a bill to help smaller schools.
The bill by Lakewood Republican Representative Ken Summers and Denver Democratic Sen. Chris Romer would allow small schools to count their plate totals together, meaning they would need 3,000 plates total to meet the renewal requirement.
