Unsung and unselfish East High point guard Jamiko Verner quietly goes about his business. A starter on last season’s Class 5A state championship team, Verner distributed the ball, directed the team and played strong defense. This season, he’s doing that and more. He burned Thomas Jefferson last week for 19 points, 12 assists and 12 steals in a city victory for the top-ranked Angels. “I’m surrounded by playmakers,” Verner said, “and when I get the ball to them at the right time, it makes my stats look good. We all have roles to fill.”
