SESTRIERE, Italy—Austrian skier Maria Holaus was airlifted to a hospital with a head injury after falling during a women’s World Cup super-G on Sunday.
Holaus lost control on the upper portion of the Kandahar Banchetta course and hit the ground hard at full speed.
She was taken by helicopter to the CTO Torino hospital in nearby Turin.
Organizers said she did not lose consciousness and that she may have also injured her knee.
Considered one the top younger skiers on the Austrian team, Holaus won a super-G in Cortina d’Ampezzo last month for her first World Cup victory.
Fraenzi Aufdenblatten of Switzerland and Emily Brydon of Canada also fell in Sunday’s race, although they did not appear to have major injuries.
Andrea Fischbacher and Fabienne Suter shared victory in the race.
The Kandahar course was used for men’s speed races at the 2006 Turin Olympics. The women raced in nearby San Sicario.
