Denver police are searching for a man who collided with a scooter driver and left her lying in a downtown street as he fled the scene on foot Saturday.
The crash happened at about 10:15 p.m. at Colfax Avenue and Grant Street.
The man was at the wheel of an sport utility vehicle heading west on Colfax when he tried to turn onto Grant and hit the woman on the scooter who was heading east.
“She was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with serious bodily injuries, looks like a broken hip,” said Denver police spokesman John White.
Her name has not been released.
The driver dragged the scooter under his vehicle for about a block before stopping. A number of witnesses saw the accident.
Police are looking for the registered owner of the vehicle. After pulling over, the driver grabbed his keys and other items from the vehicle, tried to dump some items down a storm drain and left the scene, according to 9News.
“It’s not like this person is going to be able to claim that they didn’t know that they hit somebody,” Detective Tilo Voitel of the Denver Police Department told 9News.
“It’d be a whole lot better coming in and dealing with this right away rather than letting us catch up with him,” said Voitel, “because it truly is only a matter of time.”
