Jefferson County authorities arrested a car-theft suspect who broke into a residence and assaulted two people this morning.

About 8:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office broadcast a reverse-911 call after receiving a report that a man had stolen a Cadillac Escalade from a home near Lookout Mountain.

Authorities said the man ditched the Escalade, leaving it running near where it was allegedly stolen and was then spotted in the area numerous times by residents who called to report his whereabouts, 9News reported.

One person in the area said that a man fitting the 911-call description knocked on the door of the tipster’s home, but the resident didn’t let the suspect in because of the warning, 9News said. Instead, the resident called authorities.

Deputies said the suspect broke into another home through a basement window and assaulted two people, who were later transported to Lutheran Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately known.

The suspect was arrested at about 10:30 a.m.
