EMPIRE, Colo.—Four snowmobilers who spent a cold night in the mountains about 40 miles west of Denver were found alive and in good condition Monday.
Alpine Rescue Team spokesman Bill Barwick said the two adults and two teenagers were found at about 10 a.m. and were brought out for a reunion with family members.
The group went snowmobiling in the Jones Pass area Sunday night but got lost.
Barwick said three dozen rescuers braved cold temperatures and strong winds to find them. The wind prevented searchers from using helicopters.
A new storm that could drop up to 8 inches of snow was headed toward the area where they were found.
It was the second time in two weeks that snowmobilers have become lost in the Colorado high country. Three snowmobilers got lost in the Vail area on Jan. 27. Two were rescued but a third died.
Six others got lost in southern Colorado on Jan. 4 but broke into a cabin for shelter. They were all rescued three days later.
