COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Residents of Colorado Springs could see their water rates more-than double by 2015 to help pay for a pipeline project.

That information comes from a Bureau of Reclamation study, which shows that the city’s partners in the project will also see their rates go up.

The pipeline would carry water from the Pueblo Reservoir.

Fountain residents could see rates increase by 63 percent, while residential rates in Security would climb by 171 percent.

The bureau released documents containing the rate hike forecasts in advance of a draft Environmental Impact Statement on the so-called Southern Delivery System.

Colorado Springs Utilities officials say the project would allow the city to meet its demand for water until at least 2046.
