A 2-year-old girl riding a tiny push scooter in the street was hit by a family friend in his small SUV in Westminster this afternoon.
The little girl was at her great aunt’s house when a family friend backed into the street in the 7700 block of Knox Court without seeing the toddler behind him, said Westminster Police Investigator Stephanie Topkoff.
The child was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital in Aurora and was hurt “very badly,” Topkoff said.
Though the incident is still under investigation, it appeared to be a tragic accident and the driver was not detained or cited, she said.
Topkoff would not identify the driver or the injured girl.
