A car police believe was involved in a hit-and-run collision has been found, but investigators have not yet determined who was driving it.

The hit-and-run incident happened at about 5:55 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of College Avenue and injured a 16-year-old boy, said Sarah Huntley, a police spokeswoman.

The teenager was taken to Boulder Community Hospital where he was treated for a broken bone and bruises and later released, Huntley said in a press release.

Witnesses told police the teenager was walking with friends when an approaching car drifted toward the group. The vehicle may have accelerated before hitting the victim, some witnesses told police.

The driver fled the scene before police arrived.

On Sunday police received an anonymous tip from a caller who said the hit-and-run car could be found parked at a home on Ninth Street near University Avenue, Huntley said.

Officers contacted a homeowner on the 1300 block of Ninth Street and with the homeowner’s permission searched his garage, where they found a black Volvo with front-end damage, Huntley said.

Investigators have impounded the car, and it’s being processed for evidence. The owner of the car has not been arrested and the investigation is ongoing, Huntley said.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run or the suspect car is asked to call Boulder police at 303-441-3333.
