GREENWOOD VILLAGE — The art of doubling as head coach for football and boys basketball in consecutive seasons continues throughout Colorado, notably in lower ranks.

But it will be taken to a new level next fall when Mike Brookhart will attempt to coach both football and basketball at Cherry Creek, the state’s largest school.

The school’s head boys basketball coach since 2002, Brookhart also was part of three Bruins football titles as an assistant under Fred Tesone and Mike Woolford, and was a quarterback on the Bruins 1978 semifinalist team.

“I plan on being very organized and hiring a good staff,” Brookhart said. “I’m looking forard to it because I’m a Bruin.”

In Class 5A perspective, Gateway’s Jeff Sweet also pulled double duty for seven years.
