The art of doubling as head coach for high school football and boys basketball in consecutive seasons continues throughout Colorado, notably in the lower ranks.

But it will be taken to a new level this fall when Mike Brookhart will attempt to coach football and basketball at Cherry Creek, the state’s largest school.

Cherry Creek’s head boys basketball coach since 2002, Brookhart was part of three Bruins football titles as an assistant for Fred Tesone and Mike Woolford. He quarterbacked the Bruins’ 1978 semifinalist team.

“I plan on being very organized and hiring a good staff,” Brookhart said. “I’m looking forward to it because I’m a Bruin.”
