DENVER—A new report concludes new home construction in metropolitan Denver has fallen to its lowest level in 16 years as the housing market continues to struggle.
The Home Builders Association of Metro Denver reports that permits issued for new single-family homes totaled nearly 11,000 in 2007. That’s a 34 percent drop from the previous year.
The record was about 20,400 permits in 2005.
The HBA’s Roger Reinhardt says it’s a difficult market, and predicts that the industry could lose 10,000 jobs as a result compared to peak employment levels.
