The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has announced an additional review to determine whether the greater sage grouse warrants protection under the Endangered Species Act.
The federal agency is opening a 90-day comment period to allow people to bring forward information on the status of the species. Comments may be made through May 27 at or to the agency at 4401 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 222, Arlington, VA 22203. Information provided in response to a 2005 survey need not be resubmitted.
At that time, the agency determined ESA protection was not warranted. Responding to a subsequent lawsuit, a federal court remanded the finding back to FWS for further consideration.
