GOLDEN, Colo.—Three eighth-graders accused of possessing a narcotic painkiller have been charged with possessing a controlled substance.

Two girls and a boy from Carmody Middle School in Lakewood were charged after police and school officials found four tablets of Dilaudid in February, prosecutors in Jefferson County said Friday.

A teacher became suspicious when she saw a girl hand something to a boy in a hallway. Investigators determined that another girl likely brought the drug from home and gave it to her friends. Investigators believe it was prescribed for an adult family member.
