BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado has received a record 23,000 applications from potential freshmen.

CU officials said Thursday that’s 16 percent more than they had received by this time last year.

Admissions Director Kevin MacLennan says the target size for the freshman class is 5,600. Last fall CU had 5,555 freshmen.

At Colorado State University, freshman applications are up 19 percent from last year to 13,377. CSU said Friday that applications from nonresidents are up 32 percent to 6,239.

CSU hopes to enroll about 4,650 freshmen this fall, up from the 4,392 incoming freshmen last fall.
