STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Springs airport officials say a United Express flight aborted a landing attempt on Saturday after the pilots spotted a small plane on their runway.

Yampa Valley Regional Airport Manager Dave Ruppel says traffic controllers in Denver had cleared the small plane for takeoff after the United Express pilots apparently reported they were already on the ground before they had actually landed.

No injuries were reported. United officials did not immediately return a call.

It’s not clear how many people were on the United Express CRJ-700, which can carry 66 passengers, or the smaller King Air, which can carry nine or 12.

Federal officials said Monday they had no report of the incident.
