A man arrested in Douglas County after leading deputies on a chase, with his 6-year-old daughter in tow, is being held without bail today because he’s wanted on felony warrants in two counties.

Carlos Delacruz-Espino, 27, was arrested Monday evening after leading Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high speed chase, authorities said.

Delacruz-Espino has an outstanding warrant on felony criminal mischief and domestic violence out of Weld County, said Ron Hanavan, a Douglas County sheriff’s spokesman. He’s also wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Elbert County for felony eluding of police.

A nine-minute chase started at 5:43 p.m. Tuesday when a deputy spotted a Ford pickup going 75 mph in a 45-mph speed limit at South Lake Gulch Road and Plum Creek Parkway, Hanavan said.

When the deputy tried to pull the truck over, it sped away, blowing through stop signs and around cars, according to the sheriff’s office.

The chase ended on a dead-end private driveway in the Legacy Hills subdivision.

Delacruz-Espino ran for a short distance across a snow-packed field into the woods before he gave up, authorities said. He was arrested on a battery of charges including reckless driving, child abuse and vehicular eluding.
