AUSTIN, Texas — Dell has begun selling a notebook computer that meets many of the Defense Department’s toughest standards for durability. The Latitude XFR D630, the company’s first fully rugged laptop, is targeted for the military, police and other high-impact commercial users, such as oil-field workers. The 14-inch laptop (starting price $3,899) was tested to withstand higher falls, more extreme temperatures and altitudes, and dust and moisture levels that usually would ruin standard notebooks.
