WYOMING INN OF JACKSON HOLE

930 W. Broadway, Jackson, WY, 800-844-0035,

Rates: Start at $120 per night for a room with two queen beds; rooms with queens or a king bed, as well as a kitchen and fireplace or Jacuzzi bath and fireplace, start at $150 and $170, respectively. Look for online deals, including Ski Packages that start at $188 and include two nights’ lodging, lift tickets and transportation to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Free parking lot.

Stay here if you’re: A family; looking for a relaxed, casual spot right off the main drag; or traveling with a group that wants a welcoming environment with spacious, comfortable public spaces and delicious complimentary breakfast served in a large dining room where the group can meet and plan the day. Also good for business travelers moving through the area; free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and a nice, small business center overlooking the rustic lobby.

It’s close to: Downtown (two minutes away; the town of Jackson runs a free shuttle that stops right behind the hotel) and the airport (15 minutes away; the hotel runs a free shuttle to and from).

The rooms are: Big enough to move around in without whacking your knees on something, with writing desks, comfortable chairs and round tables to make a little seating area and nice kitchenettes. It’s worth it to spring for the fireplace in the winter. Decor accents such as carved-wood furnishings, horse-print pillow shams and Southwestern throw rugs offer a rustic feel without making it too theme-y.

They put all of the money into: The public spaces, which are very inviting, including the large, couch-filled lobby with its stone fireplace, an area that usually finds folks gathering to read the newspaper or grab a homemade cookie or other snack, such as the bottomless pot of soup available during winter evenings. The expanded continental-style morning meal served in the cheerful breakfast room includes things such as biscuits and gravy and fresh fruit, and there’s a big-screen TV for catching up on the news.

The bottom line: Wyoming Inn is a reasonably priced lodging ideal for families and other groups looking to spend quality time together exploring the area or skiing.
