Frozen-chicken entrees packaged as “Discover Cuisine Red Curry Chicken & Jasmine Rice” are being recalled in Colorado, according to Colorado health officials.
The 12-ounce packages were manufactured by Inovata Foods, an Edmonton, Alberta, company, said the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division.
About 3,780 pounds of the frozen-chicken entrees are involved.
The company says the chicken may be contaminated with the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.
The health department said that listeriosis is a serious infection caused by eating food contaminated with the bacteria and primarily affects the elderly, pregnant women, newborns and adults with weakened immune systems.
The frozen-chicken entrees were distributed to Whole Foods stores in Colorado.
No illnesses have been reported.
Daniel Rifkin, wholesale food program manager for the state Department of Health, said healthy people rarely contract listeriosis.
“However,” he added, “listeriosis can cause high fever, severe headache, neck stiffness and nausea for those who are affected.”
The problem was discovered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service sampling process.
