Liqueur (lih-KYOOR):

A liqueur is a base spirit (such as brandy, rum or whiskey) that has been flavored and sweetened, through one or more methods including distillation, infusion, maceration and percolation. Common flavorings include fruits, flowers, herbs and spices. Often used as cocktail ingredients, liqueurs are occasionally served straight up as cordials. Common liqueurs include curaçao (flavored with orange), chartreuse (herbs), crème de cassis (blackcurrant) and anisette (anise).
