AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—Caliche’s tandem of 6-3 junior forwards, Craig Debus and Cody Zink scored 25 and 16 points, respectively, in an 88-69 win over Flagler in the Class 1A boys semifinals Friday.
Caliche (21-2) led 40-30 at halftime but Flagler hung on. Phillip Witt collected eight of his team-high 22 points in the third quarter as Flagler (17-6) pulled to within three, 46-43, before Caliche began to pull away.
Caliche led 59-49 after three quarters but Debus scored 12 points—five field goals and a pair of free throws—in the finale as Caliche cruised home for the win.
Derek Weingardt scored 15 points and Corey Stumpf had 11 points for Caliche.
Lucas Louztenhiser added 19 points to the Flagler cause, and Bryant Elrick had 15.
Caliche entered the tournament with a 21-1 record. The Buffaloes sole loss was 68-65 to Holyoke.
Caliche takes on the winner of the Hi-Plains-Peetz semifinal.
