Dave Matthews Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and John Mayer will lead dozens of acts playing the inaugural Mile High Music Festival, promoter AEG Live Rocky Mountains announced Tuesday.
The festival, July 19-20 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, will be the largest music festival in Colorado history, Gov. Bill Ritter said at a news conference at the complex.
“This is a great cultural event . . . but as well it’s a great economic-development event,” Ritter told the small crowd, which included AEG Live Rocky Mountains head Chuck Morris, U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette and other government and entertainment officials.
The festival will take place on five stages — including two under football-field-size tents — on the 24 full-size soccer fields outside the main stadium, about 9 miles northeast of Denver.
The rain-or-shine festival will require additional traffic and security plans, especially since onsite camping is not allowed.
“We know how important that is, and we’re going to get it done right,” Morris said, responding to a question about the festival’s logistics.
Other acts confirmed include O.A.R., Steve Winwood, Spoon, moe., the Black Crowes, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Flogging Molly, Colbie Caillat, the Roots, OneRepublic and Andrew Bird.
Denver and Boulder-bred bands Born in the Flood, Meese, Railbenders, Rose Hill Drive, Flobots, the Photo Atlas and others will play.
More acts will be announced in the next two months.
A two-day pass will cost $150, and a limited number of single-day tickets will be available for $85.
Pre-sale tickets go on sale Thursday to KBCO radio Interactive members.
General audience tickets go on sale March 29.
