So pick up one of DK’s nicely assembled guides, but use it only as a starting point. They are available for more than 50 major international cities (they constantly are adding new ones), filled with their usual stellar, glossy photographs (even the tiny ones in these slender, 3-by-6-inch volumes) and contain a plastic back pocket with an easy-to-read, laminated, foldout map.
Categories for the “top 10” include not only the expected historic sites, activities and places to shop and eat, but also the 10 most important moments in history, parks and gardens, day trips and things to do with kids. In addition, the guides include getting there and getting around info, basics on etiquette and translations of popular phrases.
