KUSA-Channel 9 was named “station of the year” for the ninth consecutive year at the annual Colorado Broadcasters Association award ceremony this week, while KCNC-Channel 4 took top honors for “best newscast” for its 10 p.m. half-hour.

The award for best documentary went to KMGH-Channel 7 for “Room 206 – Platte Canyon Shooting,” a half-hour special by Tom Burke and John Ferrugia.

Channel 9’s Kathy Sabine was named best weathercaster, Drew Soicher was named best sportscaster and investigative reporter Deborah Sherman was named best specialty reporter.

Beating out the late-news teams, Deborah Takahara of KDVR-Chanel 31’s 9 p.m. newscast was named best anchor. KDVR also won best photo essay.

Overall, KCNC won nine first place awards, KUSA won 8 plus station of the year.

Winners are selected by juries made up of broadcasters in another state.
