A consortium of state and federal agencies will join with local partners in formulating a conservation plan for Colorado’s beleaguered greater sage grouse.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife will join with the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service and National Resources Conservation Service to map a strategy to reverse the declining fortunes of a once-numerous bird.

Land development and agricultural practices generally have diminished the sagebrush habitat, which holds the key to grouse vitality. DOW has designated sage grouse as a species of concern. This coordinated effort, echoed in a dozen other Western states, is aimed at forestalling federal listing as a threatened species.
