Ex-Brighton teacher to face trial on sex-assault charges

BRIGHTON — A former Brighton charter-school teacher accused of sexual assault on a child has been ordered to face trial on two felony counts.

Kelly is free on a $20,000 bond and was in Adams County Court on Wednesday for his preliminary hearing, as was his accuser.

Kelly’s arrest was the third sex case involving a teacher from the school over a two-year span and has led Brighton School District 27J to consider revoking the school’s charter. Tuesday night, however, the school board agreed to enter into mediation to resolve differences.
