DENVER—More than $20 million in tax refunds have gone unclaimed by nearly 23,000 Coloradans who didn’t file a federal income tax return for 2004.

The Internal Revenue Service says about half those people would receive more than $500. But they must file a 2004 return no later than April 15th to collect the money.

The law gives most taxpayers three years to claim a refund. The refunds fromr 2004 will become the property of U.S. Treasury if taxpayers don’t file a claim.
