Getting your player ready...

Offensive lineman Casey Wiegmann knows what the Broncos are about after completing his visit Wednesday.

He has the Broncos’ contract proposal in hand and swimming in his mind. Now Wiegmann is headed back home to Overland Park, Kan., where he is going to talk about his next career move with his fiancee and give the Broncos his answer in the morning.

If Wiegmann does sign with the Broncos, center Tom Nalen and left guard Ben Hamilton would again have competition, three days after the team traded backup Chris Myers to the Houston Texans in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Wiegmann, who will turn 35 in July, started 111 consecutive games for the Kansas City Chiefs dating back to 2001 until he was released to free agency three weeks ago. He most likely would enter the Broncos’ camp as the backup to Nalen and Hamilton, both of whom are coming off season-ending injuries.

But Wiegmann has drawn interest recently from other teams, so he most likely wouldn’t sign with Denver if he didn’t think he had a chance to compete for a starting job.

“The theory with offensive linemen is a center can play guard but not many guards can play center,” said Joe Linta, Wiegmann’s agent.
