DENVER—The cost to the state for repairing a a 40-foot wide sinkhole on Interstate 25 north of downtown last month totaled $1.03 million.
The 16-foot deep sinkhole opened up just before evening rush hour Feb. 7 when a 66-inch Denver Water pipeline that runs beneath the highway burst. The Colorado Department of Transportation might seek reimbursement from Denver Water.
Money for the repair came from CDOT’s $40 million contingency fund.
According the report released Thursday, most of the money—$833,697—went to Jalicso International, which had been working north of the site and was quickly mobilized for emergency repairs.
